Life…

My heart breaks today for someone I hardly know. 

She stands there filling shelves in a grocery store, telling me the story of how her husband passed away over a month ago. “It wasn’t life threatening they told me, but I could tell he was getting worse.” It turns out he went to the hospital for a minor rash, but through his 9 day hospital stay, acquired Mirsa and a fatal case of Pneumonia. “He was only 64 and was planning on retiring next year,” she goes on. “He was my soulmate and I can’t imagine life without him.” Yet here she is stocking shelves. 

She is the type of person to treat you as her own child. Even here in this momment, she seems more concerned about how I’ve been since she’s last seen me. My heart goes out to her today. 

If I could give one piece of advice, Be kind to one another! You never know what journey in life someone else is on. With all of the things going on in day to day life, remember to pay attention to what really matters most…PEOPLE.

Livingroom Makeover

When I first moved into my house I was in a decorating frenzy to get everything done.  After a few months and some disappointing paint colors, I decided to live in the space for a while to see how I felt, before making any more changes.  While the whole house is still in a fluid state of decor rotation, I finally have it at a point where I feel comfortable enough to share.

Here is a look at where the living room started and where it is today.

IMG_3515This is what it looked like when I first moved in.

IMG_3588I thought I liked the color, so curtains seemed like a good place to start.  Yet somehow, even though the curtains were beige linen, they blended right in with the mint walls.  It just looked blah.

IMG_5188 Enter Darker mint paint. “Malted Mint” to be exact.  I love it, but the window still needed something, so I added bamboo shades to fill in the wall between the windows and the curtains.

The other side of the living room has gone through multiple changes.  How do you decide what the best use of an extra couple feet of space should be?

Hey! It’s “Mint”……but I had to agree.

Sweet Dreams

  So it’s kind of pathetic, but I bought a new King size mattress over a year ago and it has taken me this long to finally decide on the bed frame I want.  For the past year the mattress has been on a metal rail pushed up against the wall.

I’m so excited to say, I finally bought a bed and it showed up last weekend!!  For those that know me, I have been going back and forth over a few beds for a while now and I’ve asked, just about anyone who will give me their opinion, which one I should buy.  Well, I finally bought one and I thought I would give you guys a chance to guess on which one I went with.  So what do you think?  Which one is it?

New Love

Everyone has been asking, so I figure it’s finally time for an update. I have a new love in my life. My house….

IMG_3322Looking for a house in St. Petersburg/Clearwater area turned into a more difficult adventure then I bargained for.  After previously looking at houses in Orlando, I had to wipe my head clear of any idea of what I can get in terms of size, updates or even a second bathroom for the money.  It’s hard to believe that most of the houses on this coast are still working with original bathrooms and kitchens.  I’ve never seen more yellow, purple, pink, and turquoise bathrooms in my life as I have these past few months.  I wish I had pictures for you because they were pretty interesting.  That and apparently the idea of having a second bathroom is a new concept over here.  That is unless you want to put it in the garage or laundry room.

The first house I put an offer on had a toilet and sink in the laundry room and I thought I hit the big one.  That is until I found out that the whole house needed to be rewired for electric  just to get insurance AND it was in a food zone.  For those of you unfamiliar with flood zones in Florida, take your home owners insurance and double it and that’s what it would have been for me to insure this house with flood insurance.

After that I…

-Had a minor break down, since my lease on the apartment was up in two months and it took 6 months to find that house.

-Had a fight with the Realtor to get my deposit back, because no one told me the house was in a flood zone and I had to find out on my own.

-Had to find a new mortgage banker because my current banker couldn’t provide me the appropriate paperwork to get out of the contract on the house even through I no longer qualified for the house with the flood insurance.  He could only provide paperwork qualifying me for the house but no paperwork saying I no longer qualified.

– Had to make many phone calls to get a new realtor.

– Last, I had to eliminate all negative people in my life that were adding more stress to my situation.

Then I was ready to look for a new house again.  I found my current home two weeks after that.  It turns out I just needed a cleanse to find the house I really wanted.  Of course it did need a new roof and I still had to muddle through those negotiation and wait for the installation and re-inspection, but in the end I’m so happy with my choice.

So if you were wondering, buying a home was one of the most stressful things I’ve ever had to do.  If it wasn’t for daily phone calls to my mom and my best friend walking me through every step of the way, I may have given up on the whole thing.  The reward though…It’s MINE.  After moving 23 times in 32 yrs, I finally have a place to call HOME.  So come on in…
